Traditional Zulu Evening

On Monday night we were treated to a traditional Zulu feast, complete with music and dancing. The staff of the Knoll and their children performed a dance called Indlamu, characterised by dancers lifting their foot high into the air and stamping down hard.

After already several meals at various food courts, we were extremely happy to enjoy the Zulu food. We had steak, sausages, warm bread, spinach, maize and beans, all washed down with Umqombothi. Brewed mainly with maize, Umqombothi is a Zulu beer often drank from a communal pot called an ukhamba.

This was a great evening and definitely one of the highlights of the trip!

We would all like to say a huge thank you to Lindy and Mark and all the staff at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm for making our stay so comfortable and memorable and for your great hospitality.
